chapter twenty six: The Ryuukai Clan

Someone once told me that pride is everything to a man, technically, that is true. But must there be arrogance beside pride? Must there be hate and revenge as well? What is the true meaning of pride now when there is no longer honor in it?
“Katsuya, are the men ready?” I asked him as I survey the area.
“They are most likely my lord.” He said. Katsuya, I and three more soldiers arrived at Kiyoshira two days ago and now we are preparing to leave. These three soldiers Katsuya say were the finest swordsmen. I haven’t seen them in combat yet but they look strong enough. We are now trying to get pass the Ryuukai Clan’s enforcement. The first time was easy because half of them were half asleep. But now, they are very awake.
“How are we going to get through them?” I asked. It was silent. By now Katsuya would probably say something. I turned around and spears were pointed at me and my men. Great,
“Put your hands where I can see them!” said one of the guards to me. I sighed.
“Hurry up,” said another.
“Yeah,” I said as I quickly took one of my daggers’ and toss it towards one of them. With that Katsuya and the other three grabbed their weapons and fought back. We manage to kill them all but just our luck, more of them came. We were surrounded by Ryuukai soldiers.
“What do we have here?” asked a voice. He sounds familiar.
“Akihiko-dono, we found them trespassing in our base. They even killed a few of our men.” Explained one of the soldiers’, Akihiko then looked at me and smiled smugly at me. Arata Akihiko, he is the general for the Ryuukai clan. I’ve known him since I was little. Actually I know half of the Ryuukai clan people as I was one of them once.
“It is a surprise to see you here. Lord Makoto will be even happier,” he said, I stayed silent.
“Are you still giving me the silent treatment? You’re such a kid.” He said. I sighed.
“What are you doing here anyway? Are you spying on us for the Kyouzaiku’s’?”
“Like I’d tell you,” I hissed. He stared at me for a moment and then laughed.
“Bring him alive,” he said as he started to walk,
“What about his men?”
“Obviously, kill them.” He said. The soldiers were ready to slice their throat,
“No wait!” I yelled. Arata made the stop hand signal and walk back towards me.
“Pick one,” he mused.
“What?”
“Pick one of them to live.” He said. My mind was yelling ‘say Katsuya’ because he was a loyal friend to me and a good soldier but that wouldn’t be fair to the other three, plus they are still young—still many things to see in the world but as were Katsuya.
“Tick tock,”
“Are you stupid!? I can’t pick! They are all my men!” I yelled. At the moment, I felt as if I didn’t want to live. The soldiers quickly sliced opened all four of their throats. Katsuya’s blood spattered on me as he was the closest to me. One of the guards grabbed me and pushed me to keep waking. It was just him, Arata and me, my sword is still with me so the next that came in my mind was revenge of course. When I thought that we were far enough from the other guards I head-butt the guard who was behind me and took out my sword and jumped to attack Arata. I was playing unfair because I attacked from behind. He then turned hastily and blocked the attack.

I woke up due to the noise my phone was making, my hand ran across the table next to my bed and when I found the phone I had a glance at it. It was a call from Cameron. And I happen to notice the time too, 4:03am…I pressed the answer button and place the phone at my ear. My face was buried on my pillow that I couldn’t even greet him properly.
“Hello?” I heard his gentle voice calling me, i then turned around and I was facing the celling.
“Scarlet, are you there? I know it is too early to be calling you, but I wanted to ask something.” He said, I wanted to say something but the words got stuck on my throat and I couldn’t spit it out,
“You must be sleeping with the phone on huh? Well then I will call you back later,” at the moment I quickly got up,
“Cameron!” I said literally yelling his name,
“So, you were awake,” he said acerbically.
“Sorry, I was a bit fuzzy. What is it that you wanted to tell me?” I asked,
“I was wondering if I should go through this,”
“This being…?”
“Tutoring Amber,”
“What? You should! This is like a free pass to get to her heart,”
“You make it sound like I want to eat her heart or something,”
“Win, not eat…”
“Ha, same thing,”
“How is that same?”
“Scarlet.” He called my name in a way that I cannot explain.
“Yes?” I said, whispering back,
“Stick with the topic please,” he said, again whispering,
“Right, so why are you being so doubtful my student?” I asked,
“I am afraid that she will only see me as a tutor and nothing else,”
“You silly-silly boy, tutors are the ones that always gets the girl,”
“In all those teen dramas, yes, but in real life no tutors are as hot as them,” I felt like going next door and duck typing his face to a mirror.
“You are,” I simply said,
“Excuse me?”
“I said, you are freaking hot…!”
“Don’t just say-“
“Cameron, don’t make me come there and duck type your face to a mirror.” I just had to say it…
“Aren’t you being violent?”
“Only when I don’t get my sleep,”
“I see, I think I shall let you sleep,” he said, and he added a goodnight too.
“Cameron, you are attractive, for a nerd,” I said, I heard his harmonious laugh and I found myself smiling again.
“Thanks? And you are beautiful, for a…well, you are tremendously beautiful the way you are, goodnight again, Scarlet.” He said as he hung up, I in the other hand sat there on my bed dumbfounded as I let go of my phone and I could feel it drop on my thigh. I could also feel my blood gushing through my veins and just meeting up at me cheeks. I place my hand on my cheek and I blushed some more to the thought of me blushing! I had a hard time sleeping and when I actually did, I noticed that it was already 7 am. Time to go to school; thank god it is Friday today.
